What course should my kid or teen take if they have never gone to a coding camp?

With small classes and hands-on support from our coding instructors, most courses are appropriate for beginner to advanced students. We recommend that you choose a course that your learner is excited about.

What if my child already has coding experience?

Our intermediate - advanced programs offer exciting projects that will motivate your student and mentorship provided by our staff so that experienced students will still be able to learn valuable skills and integrate professional processes into their work such as wireframing, debugging, developing a minimum viable product, user testing, product pitching, flow charts, pseudocode, and project timelines.

Instructors introduce students to increasingly advanced levels according to their progress and previous experience.

For in-person classes, all required technology equipment will be provided. Students do have the option to bring their own. For information about the equipment that will be used for your classes, please email info@southbendcodeschool.com.

For virtual programs, the projects that will be worked on are web-based. Students will need access to the internet. Any computer, laptop, or tablet that you have should work. Will my child have homework for class?

Your child will not have specific assignments between classes, but is encouraged to keep coding and working on projects as they see fit. Participants will receive individual feedback for more advanced courses, projects, and ways to grow their skills.

Do students build projects for clients for industry experience?

We do look for projects for our students to be able to apply their coding skills to; however, we do look for these opportunities to serve as paid-internships for the students. We like for those students who are highly motivated and who take these things seriously, to have the opportunity to gain real-world work experience.

My child has special needs. How can I let the instructor know?

Our team is happy to speak with you about your child’s needs. Please email info@southbendcodeschool.com to schedule a private call.

I’m concerned about my students having too much screentime.

Our curriculum uses a careful balance of both unplugged and plugged activities to teach computer science. Unplugged lessons are activities where students are not on a computer or a digital device. Plugged lessons involve activities and projects that require the use of a computer.
